speitbsc Great Alumni of SPE ITB (GASP) is a newly introduced initiative aimed at connecting members with inspiring alumni of SPE ITB SC who have excelled in the industry. Conducted 7 times throughout the year, GASP utilized various formats including Instagram takeovers, mentoring sessions, and live Q&A to reach over 7,000 social media followers and 1,500+ members. The program successfully featured 5 oil and gas professionals, 1 graduate student, and 1 data scientist, providing a broad range of career insights. Topics covered include strategies for job applications, transitioning into the petroleum industry, career growth, studying abroad, and adapting in multicultural environments. These sessions answered more than 80 member-submitted questions and generated over 110,000 social media interactions—demonstrating strong engagement and relevance. What sets GASP apart is its innovative approach of spotlighting diverse career options, such as our former SPE VP who transitioned from petroleum engineering to data science—having worked at bp, Tesla, and SPAN. This widened members’ perspectives to alternative career opportunities and encouraged adaptability. In addition to its developmental impact on students, GASP fostered a sense of pride and nostalgia among alumni dating back to our founding in 1992. Many alumni expressed enthusiasm to reconnect and actively contribute to SPE at the section and international level. Moreover, closing testimonials in each session effectively strengthened membership engagement, evidenced by a 90.4% member retention rate this year. GASP offers a clear and effective model for other chapters to maintain alumni relationships and directly support the career development of their members.
