SPE ITB Field Trip to Pertamina EP Cepu & PPSDM Migas

speitbsc SPE ITB Field Trip to Pertamina EP Cepu & PPSDM Migas (Indonesia’s primary oil and gas training center) was a comprehensive, four-day field trip collaboratively organized with the Society of Indonesian Petroleum Engineers (IATMI). Bringing 35 enthusiastic members on a 520 km road trip, this initiative provided exclusive firsthand experiences in upstream oil production and downstream crude processing at two prominent Indonesian energy facilities. Participants closely observed active production wells, including a conventional oil well established in 1920, offering them direct exposure to diverse extraction methods and operational challenges. The program also encompassed a thorough tour of processing facilities, a rig monument, and equipment workshops, significantly enhancing members' practical knowledge and technical insights across wide operations. A strategic sponsor partnership with Pertamina EP Cepu significantly subsidized trip expenses, greatly enhancing accessibility and affordability for all participants. This inclusive approach resulted in 31% participation from non-petroleum engineering majors, demonstrating our commitment to broadening SPE activities to more diverse backgrounds. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was fully provided by SPE throughout the trip to ensure maximum safety and learning comfort on site. As one of SPE ITB SC’s flagship programs since our chapter’s foundation, it remains highly popular among students and consistently boosts membership and volunteer participation each year. Our proven approach to field trips has gained external recognition, evidenced by 5 invitations this year alone to share our best practices and insights with fellow student organizations, highlighting how easily this program can be replicated with significant benefits.
