November 26th 2013, SPE ITB SC conducted a field visit to Pertamina EP Tambun. As student collages, we realize that studying in the class is not much enough. In the class, students are only learning the theory. This event is held in other that students understand the application of that theory in oil and gas industry.

PT. Pertamina EP Tambun is the third asset of PT. Pertamina EP Indonesia. In 3th asset Tambun field, there are 65 wells, 46 production wells, 13 injection well, and 6 dry holes. In there, we looked around the pipelines, then visited condensate plan sector, water injection plan sector and the last we visited one of their wells.

When looked around the pipelines, we were explained about the fluid flow from well to storage. Each six hours they do checking total fluid produced then multiple it by four to get production rate each day. Then the fluid was separated by separator between liquid and gas. For liquid, the liquid send into a tank to separates again between oil and water. Finally the oil send to refinery and the water was treated in water injection plan sector. Water injection plan sector separate bad chemicals from water then add scale inhibitor, corrosion inhibitor, etc. While for gas, the several of produced gases sell to consumption then the rest send to condensate plan sector. In condensate plan the gas was converted to liquid. The principle of condensate plan is decreasing the temperature until condensate is formed. Then the condensate is sold as fuel. When we visited the well, there was “workover” activity. Workover activity is an activity to enhance production. Workover was done when oil production was decline.

That are the activity that we have done.  Then we would like to express our highest gratitude to Pertamina EP Tambun Indonesia for having been our host for the field visit and having kindly welcomed us. Participants submitted that it was a priceless learning experience to undergo, believing it significantly contributed to the enrichment of their knowledge on oil and gas industry.
