With the commitment to help all of member to develop their skills and knowledge, SPE ITB SC collaborated with HMTM “PATRA” ITB and IATMI SM ITB to host a Guest Lecture on November 27th, 2015. The guest lecture was held in Total Handil Room, Petroleum Engineering Building, ITB after the INPEX Campus Roadshow guest lecture on the same place. This guest lecture was attended by 29 participants from petroleum engineering majors. The topic is about “Exploitation Practices in Geothermal” which was delivered by Mr. Priyo Hutomo.


First, he told us the concept of sustainable energy business which begins with prioritizing the safety factor and environment. He also explained about the concept of sustainability. Sustainability and sustainable energy concept is all about noticing business ethics, quality, work safety, environment, and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). To reach the sustainable aspect, he said that we need to make sure of gathering the social community aspect, environment aspect, and economic aspect because sustainability is about the relation between of people, profit, and planet.

One of the sustainable energy is geothermal energy. With a procedural development, geothermal energy can fulfill partially the energy demand nowadays in a long term. This is because the utilization cycle of hot fluid from production well which will be re-injected to injection well after being used for power plants. This is why we called geothermal energy as a sustainable energy. He told us that the main important thing of sustainable development concept is to fulfill the energy needs nowadays without sacrificing future needs.


He also explained us about the energy supply summary. He said that over next 25 years, oil and gas demand will still rise dramatically and the expansion of all economic energy sources will still be needed (ex : coal, nuclear, etc). This kind of situation will still be affected by supply & demand rules which the energy demand will always rises along the time.

At the end of the event, 29 participants showed their enthusiasm in this program by a number of questions given to the speaker.
