Bandung, itb.ac.id – Some of ITB students for once again declare Indonesia’s name as the winner in the international event. This time, ITB became the main winner after grabbing various awards in Oil and Gas Festival (OGFEST) 2013 which was held in Universitas Teknologi Malaysia from Tuesday to Thursday (19-21/11/2013). It is a competition that tests the ability and knowledge of students in petroleum filed. Hundreds of student from various countries all over the world participated in this event. ITB successfully grabbed the winner title of oil rig design competition, paper presentation contest, and green photography contest. Total title that ITB students got were five awards.
The theme of the OGFEST 2013 is “Human Integrity, Empowering Technology and Environment Tranquility” which reflects the need of oil and gas industry in this era. Hopefully this event would open up the mind and make students all over the world realize the need of the development of new technology for the future and at the same time preserving the sustainability of the environment.
This event also emphasized on the value and role of all the stakeholder of the oil and gas industry in every chance and challenge occur, to answer which is the right technology to apply. It is the responsibility of the all people to train a new generation and to maximize the creativity and to create ideas of new technology.
These ITB students were sponsored by Society of Petroleum Engineer (SPE) ITB and some companies in order to fund their departure to Malaysia. ITB delegate successfully grabbed the first winner of Oil Rig Design competition, which consists of Aldia Syamsudhuha (Petroleum Engineering 2010), Iqbal Tri Putra (Petroleum Engineering 2010), Nelly Irmawati (Petroleum Engineering 2010) and Ronald Sukianto (Mechanical Engineering 2010). ITB delegate designed a jacket rig that is very light but can handle a very heavy weight.
In the paper presentation contest, ITB delegate also performed their best. 3 From a total of 4 awards available went to ITB. The delegate grabbed the first runner up (Muhamad Taufik Hidayat, Petroleum Engineering 2010) and also the second runner up (Farizal Hakiki, Petroleum Engineering 2010). Muhamad Taufik Hidayat also got the best paper presenter title in this competition. In this competition the contestants were required to give the solution and innovation from a research that could be used to handle either technical or economic problems in oil and gas industry.
In the green photography contest, there was also the name of ITB student in the winner board. Afif Rikza Arifina, student of Petroleum Engineering 2010 grabbed the first winner (Grand Prize) with a photo titled “Superman and The Pile of Garbage”. He did a very great presentation that talked about one of the problems in Bandung City and it’s relation with energy usage.
Beside the competition, ITB delegate also joined some activities that already prepared by the OGFEST 2013 committee such as SPE benchmarking, oil and gas industry exhibition, industrial training, BBQ night, and gathering. There was one interesting thing happened in the closing ceremony of OGFEST 2013. ITB delegate gathered together and gave the best shout of “Salam Ganesha” and then the whole room, all participants from all over the world did the standing applause in order to appreciate ITB as the main winner of OGFEST 2013. From this experience, ITB delegate will continue to find the solution and apply it in the real life with the faith to develop Indonesia, especially in the energy sector.
