Integrated Petroleum Guest Lecture #3, Mature Field Development by VICO Indonesia

BANDUNG, – Collaborated with IATMI SM ITB and HMTM ‘PATRA’ ITB, SPE ITB SC conducted again the Integrated Petroleum Guest Lecture (IPGL) as the part of IPFEST 2018 themed “Mature Field Development”. It was held on Tuesday (06/02/18) on 3 until 6 p.m. at Total Handil Room, Petroleum Engineering Building. Mr. Puja Adinda (VICO Production Engineer) as the speaker of this guest lecture. He is an alumni of Petroleum Engineering Department batch 2009.

Mr. Puja started the guest lecture by giving the explanation about VICO Indonesia. VICO Indonesia is one of the several oil and gas company that working in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The first production started in 1972 from Badak field. In VICO there’s two special projects in the field, first acidizing and second fracturing, because he explained that there’s no naturally flowing well in Indonesia nowadays especially in the field that VICO managed.

2018 is the year where rigless candidate shrinkage is rapidly happening due to no more new zone discovery, as the effect of decreasing price of oil. So, the solution for this problem is Base Production Management (BPM). BPM is a very important to accurately for maintaining low production decline, and detect root cause of ceased gas flow, troubleshoot and find the problem.

One of the most mature field problem is the no-production well. This can happen because of the increasing water production and liquid loading. Increasing water production made two phenomenon. First, water coning and next, water out. The solution for water coning is shut-in the well, maintaining choke well and do interval perforation management. Water out is a condition where no hydrocarbon produced anymore, so the only one solution is by abundant zone permanently. For the liquid loading the solution is cyclic, venting, rocking, chemical and soap injection, velocity management, using plunger, or doing gas lift.
